  • Alaska Here We Come

It is now two days before our trip to Alaska to board the beautful Sapphire Princess. Weather checks in Anchorage calls for highs in the upper 50's with clouds and rain. Sounds very Alaska like.

This is our second trip to America's outback and we are very excited.  This time we are leading a small group of 9 adventurers some who are visiting this area for the very first time.

Many people ask us "what types of clothing do you bring to Alaska?" Here are some suggestions:

    1. Always bring layers of clothes. This time of year you can expect to have temperatures in a range from the 30's to the 60's so wearing layers allows us to adjust to the temperature of the day.

    2. Bring rain gear. August is typically rainy in Alaska. A poncho works great so again it can be a layer over your other clothing plus it will repel the rain. I would also suggest a small carry unbrella.

    3. Gloves and hats are certainly in order.

    4.  A change of shoes. This may sound obvious but if you get wet your shoes will too. You don't want to be stranded aboard while your shoes dry out.  Plus make sure they are warm shoes (not light weight sneakers) and lots of warm socks.

    5. Don't forget your camera and lots of film and memory. Alaska is truely the place for pictures whether you do snapshots or serious DSLR photography.

Well it is back to packing. More to come. Check back oftern.

  • TOP 10 MYTHS ABOUT CRUISING

    TOP 10 MYTHS ABOUT CRUISING

    1. IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE  - Cruising is very popular, specifically because of the value.  You know the cost before you go and you control the expenses.
    2. I’LL GET SEASICK – Today’s ships all have stabilizers so it feels like a luxury hotel instead of a ship. You’ll never know you left the pier.
    3. IT’S TOO FORMAL – though there are formal nights on each cruise, a tuxedo and gown are not required. Comfortable evening attire would not be out of place.  You also can choose a less formal restaurant for dinner any evening.  The food choices are all great.
    4. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TO DO ON BOARD – this is the one type of vacation where the transportation is part of the vacation. Your vacation begins as soon as you board. Here are only some of the choices you will find on many ships:

    ·        Broadway Shows

    ·        Trivia

    ·        Bingo

    ·        Golf

    ·        Ice skating

    ·        Library

    ·        Movies

    ·        Sports bar

    ·        Classes in dance; napkin folding; towel animals; how to use your camera; water sports; good nutrition etc.

    ·        Gym

    ·        Karaoke

    ·        Basketball

    ·        Rock Climbing

    ·        5-7 different lounges -so you can select the music you love best

    ·        Quiet places for meeting/dreaming etc.

    ·        Beautiful Sunrises and Sunsets.

    ·        Breakfast in Bed

    ·        Shopping

    ·        Beauty Salon/Spa or old fashion Barber Shop

    ·        Computers

    ·        Casinos

    ·        And so on…

    1. THE BATHROOMS ARE TOO SMALL – Though they are smaller than what most of us are accustomed to – they are not too small.  As most areas on a ship or in a Motorhome – they are well though out – efficient and compact.
    2. WHAT IF I GET SICK ON BOARD – All ships include a full Medical Center.  They are able to operate, deliver babies and manage disease.
    3. MY FAMILY WON’T BE ABLE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH ME – telephone, and e-mail. The ship doesn’t even have to be in port.
    4. I’LL GET LOST ON BOARD – every crew member/employee will be able to direct you to your cabin or where you want to go.
    5. WHAT IF MY LUGGAGE DOESN’T MAKE IT – your luggage is no more at risk than on a flight and there are shops on board to tide you over.
    6. WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND AND DON’T WANT TO GO – you get a 100% full refund until your final payment and you can purchase insurance to give you a full refund if you cancel for any reason after final payment.

If you have a concern or a question – don’t hesitate to ask.  We are here to make sure you don’t miss an opportunity for a vacation of a lifetime because of misinformation.  There is a reason so many vacationers are choosing cruising even in a challenging economy. You deserve your vacation – let us help make it easier, affordable and memorable.
